BALTIMORE, MD (April 25, 2006)

WHO:

  • Kimberly Oliver, the newly-named 2006-2007 National Teacher of the Year; 2006 Maryland Teacher of the Year; 2005 Montgomery County Teacher of the Year
  • Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., Governor of Maryland
  • Jon Quam, Director, National Teacher of the Year Program, Council of Chief State School Officers
  • Nancy S. Grasmick, Maryland State Superintendent of Schools
  • Jerry Weast, Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent
  • State and local officials and educators and Maryland Teacher of the Year sponsors

WHAT:     Recognize Maryland’s first National Teacher of the Year, 
               Kimberly Oliver, a kindergarten teacher at Broad Acres
               Elementary School in Montgomery County.  Ms. Oliver is a
               Nationally Board Certified teacher who mentors other 
               teachers and believes strongly in parent involvement and
               the importance of early childhood education.

               Ms. Oliver will be officially recognized by the State of
               Maryland and then will share her platform and thoughts on
               key education issues as she embarks on a year-long
               ambassadorship for the teaching profession.
