Each year, MSDE hosts Maryland’s Service-Learning Leadership Recognition Reception where students, teachers, and administrators are recognized for outstanding work in service-learning.
Two students from each system are eligible to receive Service Star awards, which recognizes them for outstanding service-learning projects and for going above and beyond the graduation requirements for their local school system.
At the same reception, up to 10 teachers and/or administrators are inducted as Service-Learning Fellows for the state. They can earn this distinction for implementing exemplary service-learning projects in the classroom, and being willing and able to share their expertise and enthusiasm with their peers.
Beginning in 2001-01, the Maryland State Department of Education has recognized principals who have displayed exemplary attributes and dedication to the field of service within their schools and communities with the Principal of the Year award.
