STATE BOARD RECEIVES FIVE MAINTENANCE OF EFFORT WAIVER REQUESTS
BALTIMORE, MD (April 6, 2010) – The Maryland State Board of Education has received formal requests from five counties for waivers from the State’s Maintenance of Effort (MOE) requirements.
Requests have come from Dorchester, Frederick, Montgomery, Talbot and Wicomico Counties.
Under the requirements of Maryland Education Article §5-202, Annotated Code of Maryland, county governments must prove that the county’s fiscal condition “significantly impedes” the county’s ability to fund MOE. Local systems had until April 1, 2010 to submit requests.
