STATE BOARD RECEIVES SIX MAINTENANCE OF EFFORT WAIVER REQUESTS

BALTIMORE, MD (April 14, 2011) – The Maryland State Board of Education has received formal requests from six counties for waivers from the State's Maintenance of Effort (MOE) requirements.

Requests have come from Anne Arundel, Kent, Montgomery, Queen Anne's, Talbot and Wicomico Counties.

Under the requirements of Maryland Education Article §5-202, Annotated Code of Maryland, county governments must prove that the county’s fiscal condition "significantly impedes" the county’s ability to fund MOE. Local systems had until April 1, 2011 to submit requests.
