Minority Business Information

Minority Business Owners—did you know that the State of Maryland has a program aimed at strengthening and preserving the state’s 200,000 minority and women-owned businesses?

A Minority Owned Business Enterprise (MBE) is defined as a business that is at least 51% owned, managed, and controlled by a minority person(s) as defined by state and federal laws. This includes members of socially or economically disadvantaged minority groups, such as African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, women, and physically or mentally disabled individuals. Under state law, MBEs also include not-for-profit entities organized to promote the interests of physically or mentally disabled individuals.
