For Immediate Release                      Contact: Bill Reinhard, 410-767-0486

Baltimore, MD (January 26, 2015)

The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, December 27, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. It will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor.

Because of the winter weather occurring in the Baltimore area, the meeting start time has been pushed back to 11 a.m.

There have been some changes to the original agenda.  Items on the revised agenda include the following:

11:10 a.m.        Graduation Data
MSDE will release to the State Board a report about four-year cohort graduation and dropout rates for 2014.

11:40 a.m.        ESEA Flexibility
The State Board will hear a report on MSDE’s plans to request an extension of its flexibility waiver from the U.S. Department of Education.  Federal officials granted Maryland a waiver in July 2014, allowing the State to move forward with reforms designed to improve student learning and classroom instruction.  The extension would maintain the waiver status through the current school year.
