Media Alert: Maryland State Board of Education to Meet on Tuesday, September 23

The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 23, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore.  The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the State Board room.  Items on this month’s agenda include the following: 

9:10 a.m.         Principals of the Year
The State Board will recognize the 2014 Maryland Association of Elementary School Principals (MAESP) nominee for National Distinguished Principal program, Susan Myers of Walter S. Mills-Parole Elementary in Anne Arundel County.  In addition, it will honor the Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals nominees for Principal of the Year at the Middle and High School Level – Susan Evans of Ridgely Middle in Baltimore County and Larissa Santos of Edgewood High in Harford County, respectively.  The Board also will welcome MAESP’s 2013 honoree for Assistant Principal of the Year, Ronald Wooden, Jr., former assistant principal at Havre De Grace Elementary.  He has since been named principal of that school.

10 a.m.           Teacher and Principal Evaluation
The State Board is scheduled to adopt regulations governing Teacher and Principal Evaluation.  In addition, the board will be provided with the Annual Report on Teacher and Principal Evaluation, “Real Progress in Maryland,” produced by the Mid-Atlantic Comprehensive Center at West Ed.  The report will detail the evaluation work that has taken place over the past 12 months as well as chart plans for moving forward.
