Media Alert: Maryland State Board of Education to Meet on Tuesday, December 16

The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, December 16, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore.  The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the State Board room.  Items on this month’s agenda include the following: 

9:40 a.m.     High School Assessments
The State Board will hear a report on the graduating class of 2014, including their success on the High School Assessment requirement.

10 a.m.         Graduation Requirements
The State Board is scheduled to act on revised graduation requirements made necessary by the new PARCC assessments. As proposed in October, the planned regulations would delay the use of the PARCC tests in English 10 and algebra I as graduation requirement for students taking the courses this school year and next.

11:10 a.m.       Charter Schools
The State Board will hear about the results of a study of Maryland’s charter schools, prepared by researchers from the University of Baltimore’s Schaefer Center for Public Policy.

11:40 a.m.       Maryland Business Roundtable
The State Board will welcome retiring MBRT Executive Director June Streckfus and her successor, Dr. Dean Ertwine. A retired Brigadier General, Dr. Ertwine takes over the reins of the organization on Jan. 1.
