The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 28, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore.  The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the State Board room.

Items on this month’s agenda include the following:

9:40 a.m.         STEM Education
The State Board will hear an update on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in Maryland since the 2009 report of the Governor’s STEM Task Force.

The State Board is scheduled to act on a proposed update of the student discipline regulations.  State Board members have studied the issue of student discipline for more than four years with the intention of reducing the number of expulsions and out-of-school suspensions for non-violent behavior, and keeping students on track to graduate from high school.

The State Board will hear an update on the current status of MSDE’s 54 Race to the Top projects.
