WHO:             Maryland State Superintendent of Schools Lillian M. Lowery

WHAT:          Dr. Lowery will join the State of Maryland International Reading Association Council (SoMIRAC) to discuss Maryland’s new College and Career-Ready Standards in Reading/English Language Arts as well as Mathematics, which were implemented Statewide last fall.  She also will discuss Maryland’s efforts to eliminate the achievement gap among racial and special services subgroups.  Those efforts begin with stronger early childhood education, so that our youngest students enter kindergarten ready to learn.
